The gas cupola is a slightly reconstructed shaft furnace. Reconstruction is carried out inside the shaft. The design of the cupola makes it possible to convert a cupola of any efficiency into a gas fed cupola with maximum unification and small capital investments without supplementary operating spaces. In the gas cupola cast iron of required chemical composition can be obtained without burden price rise as compared with smelting with coke; mechanical qualities of obtained cast iron suit any mark of gray pig iron.
